Announce Plans for High School Relocation
Increased enrollment anticipated as the High School at DKJA plans relocation to a fully renovated, modern academic building located directly adjacent to the DKJA Lower and Middle Schools on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County 100-acre campus.
BOCA RATON – Donna Klein Jewish Academy Board of Trustees Presidents Lesley Zafran and Michael Beckerman, and Head of School Karen Feller, announce plans for the relocation of the High School at DKJA (currently situated in portable trailers on 95thAvenue South) to the Adolph and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center Administration Building, located directly adjacent to the DKJA Lower and Middle Schools on the DKJA main campus.
Details about the project:
· The building that high school students and faculty will soon occupy is two stories and 13,500 square feet.
· The building will undergo extensive renovation and remodeling to create the teaching and learning space that matches the needs of DKJA’s extensive academic program.
· DKJA has engaged architects and a general contractor to review the building and create plans for converting the current office space to a modern, purpose-built academic building for the high school program.
· When the renovation is complete, the new high school academic building will have ample space to accommodate approximately 175 students, thus enabling expansion of the current high school enrollment.
· DKJA anticipates that the renovation work will begin before the end of the current school year and that the high school will move to its new home during the fall of 2009.
· This new location will provide ninth through 12th-graders with easy access to Zinman Hall (where the school’s assemblies and performances are held), the gym, athletic fields, and student cafeterias.
· With all three divisions on the same campus, the Board and Administrators anticipate new vibrancy and synergy for the school, and a true continuum of education for the outstanding K-12 program that has earned DKJA national and international renown for its Judaics and general studies curriculum.
· The Board and Administration consider this to be a “bridge building” or Phase I of the school’s strategic vision stating: “By 2010, in a state-of-the-art facility, DKJA will be a model of academic excellence where K-12 students celebrate learning, the richness of Jewish life, and Torah values.”
· DKJA continues to move forward with plans for a new state-of-the-art K-12 campus and is concurrently engaged in Phase II of the project through the acquisition of land for the new campus.
“In a time when so much of the news is grim, Donna Klein Jewish Academy stands strong and proud,” said Head of School Karen Feller. “We extend sincere thanks and gratitude to DKJA benefactor Linda R. Kaminow, who is truly a partner in continuing to advance the mission of DKJA, and who we believe has the biggest heart in the world! When this opportunity became available, it was Ms. Kaminow who came forward as President of the Rosenblatt Foundation to arrange for the largest gift in our school’s recent history to fund the total remodeling of this building for our high school students. We also extend our thanks to the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County for their support in this exciting endeavor.”
